Do this first
The quick route
- Bring at least one other player; the supported group size starts at two.
- Have one player host and select the 2-player world.
- Join through the platform friends list or a current Join Code.
- Keep the same host for later sessions because that host owns the save.
What can one player do?
A lone player can launch a world, walk around, and inspect the opening area. That is useful for checking settings or learning controls, but it is not a separate solo campaign and it does not remove cooperation requirements.
Why progress stops
Big Walk is built around simultaneous switches, separated information, gestures, and restricted communication. The official FAQ describes everything in the game as designed for cooperative multiplayer, so solo workarounds are not the intended route through the adventure.
The lowest-cost supported setup
A two-person group is fully supported. The host chooses the 2-player version of the world, which adapts some challenges for that minimum. Crossplay lets the second player use a different supported system.
