The quick route

  1. Check House House's official Version History page for the newest listed build.
  2. Install the latest update available on every player's platform.
  3. Compare version numbers before joining; the first two numbers must match.
  4. Restart Big Walk after updating, then let the intended host start a fresh session.
  5. Read any warning shown in the host or join menu before retrying the connection.

What changed in version 1.4.10

House House lists version 1.4.10 as the newest official history entry. The patch improves network connection and stability, makes some network errors more specific, adds connection warnings to host and join menus, and makes voices less likely to cut out or stop working.

  • Network and server stability improvements
  • A fix for a server freeze after a player disconnects
  • Clearer network failure messages
  • Warnings in host and join menus
  • Improved voice stability

What version 1.4.9 added

Version 1.4.9 made Session Passwords required when starting a game. It also added Invert Look X, a frame-rate limit, half-rate Vsync, stronger save-data protection, and fixes for several challenge, collision, and disconnect problems.

What version 1.4.8 fixed

Version 1.4.8 added voice-volume normalization for microphone setups that sounded too quiet and fixed a loading issue involving gamepads with unusual names. The voice change did not remove Big Walk's intentional proximity-based drop-off.

Do all players need the exact same version?

Not necessarily. Big Walk's official FAQ says only the first two numbers of the three-part version need to match for players to play together. For example, compare the major and minor parts first, then update everyone when a current build is available.
